Norfolk Island

The travel bug bit again in April and we headed off to Norfolk Island with 60 other people for the inaugural Norfolk Island Bush Dancing Festival. David was Music Co-ordinator for the event and Anne played piano and concertina. In nine days we played for over 30 hours of workshops, dances and concerts so it was a hectic pace but a thoroughly enjoyable trip. The weather was warm and balmy with the occasional tropical storm to make flying a challenging experience. We enjoyed sampling the local foods, with fresh fruit and veggies bought direct from the garden and freshly caught fish a special treat. The local coffee plantation produces a delicious roasted coffee and the distillery churns out local liqueurs with fetching names like Convicts Curse whiskey. In between playing for the dancing we wandered around the ruins at Kingston, walked along the beautiful Emily Beach, indulged in a Ghost Tour by lantern light, enjoyed a Convict Night of bawdy entertainment and took hundreds of photos to remind us of all the things we’d otherwise forget. Here’s a selection of a few that took our fancy. Photos at the top have been shamelessly borrowed from Barbara and Lance' Courts' Bush Dancing web site at: http://dance.pcug.org.au/pics/080417_NorfolkIsland/080426_180854_568c_NorfolkIsland.htm
